Filled wafer rolls tin – Despensa de Palacio 65 g. These are a set of ten collectible tins, inspired by collectible cards of past eras. These are displayed in a stand and contain our Canalillos: wafer rolls filled with exquisite hazelnut, praline, and amaretto creams, covered with layers of delicious chocolate. These little capsules of joy are perfect for gifting and indulging. Each tin has a net weight of 65 grams.
History of the Despensa de Palacio
In 1743, Antonio Santaella, an ancestor of our family, became a baker for the Marquis of Estepa. He supplied his larder and worked with Don Juan Martínez de Baños.
Later, Don Juan rose to become the Gentleman of the Mouth of King Carlos III, when the Marquis of Estepa became Gentleman of the Chamber of the Royal House.This is documented in the archives, including the legacy 5524 of the National Historical Archive and other documents from the Royal Palace Archives.
In the first half of the 19th century, our family became the owners of an old bakery. This bakery was not only a place of work, but also a centre of learning, which gave rise to new bakeries in various branches of the Santaella family.
Today, more than 250 years later, we continue the tradition of the bakery with a wood-fired oven. There are still members of the family who practise this noble craft, which could be considered an art. As well as making mantecados, imperial polvorones, sponge cakes, puff pastries and other delicacies in our wood-fired oven, we are passionate about passing on this skill to future generations.
After learning from master chocolatiers in Switzerland and France, including stays with the families of Maurice Bernachon and Paul Bocuse, we developed our own chocolates and bonbons. We are the only chocolate factory in Andalusia and one of the few artisan bakeries in Spain that makes products from cocoa beans.
