The Sociedad Cooperativa Olibaeza Andaluza del Campo “El Alcazar” is located in the city of Baeza (declared World Heritage City). It is in the centre of the province of Jaén, within the Community of Andalusia in Spain.
This city has a great olive-growing tradition. There is evidence that olive trees were cultivated in these parts more than 2,000 years ago, and nowadays they are the main economic activity of this city.
The “El Alcazar” cooperative was set up in Baeza in 1951 by 47 founding members. All of them with the same objective that still exists today: the milling of their olives. And the subsequent marketing of the best virgin olive oils.
Over the years the cooperative has grown to become one of the most important in the province of Jaén. It currently has 1,163 members, who cultivate 554,365 trees on approximately 6,335 hectares of olive groves. These produce around 40,000,000 kilos of olives, obtaining 9,500,000 kilos of virgin olive oil.
In 2008 the cooperative left its old facilities, located in the centre of the city. It moved to new premises. These new facilities are equipped with the most modern control and automation technology. Everything is aimed at obtaining a product of the highest quality, such as virgin and extra virgin olive oil.
It is the job of all the members to take care of the production of this Olibaeza virgin olive oil. As well as getting it directly from the producer to the consumer.
Baeza is the heart of the province of Jaén. It is one of the largest olive-growing areas in Spain. Thanks to its climate and special soil, it offers a product of quality and worldwide recognition.
